Our Winter Market is held at Lafayette Mill, 650 Ten Rod Road In North Kingstown on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. In the summer months we move back to Casey Farm in Saunderstown from May through October, open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Coastal Growers’ Market opened in 2006 in the beautiful field at Casey Farm overlooking Narragansett Bay. Mike Hutchison, then manager of Casey Farm, looked out at the field below his bedroom window one morning and thought how great it would be to have a market there on Saturdays for local people to buy local food. Mike and his co-manager and wife Polly, invited farming friends to help them draw up a market charter and join the start-up market fun and we have been enjoying and thriving in that same field ever since. We are proud to have made a market that draws such loyal support from around the state and beyond.
We recognize and celebrate the growing commitment to eating locally and in season, so that freshness and the flavor and health benefits that come with eating very fresh food are returned to our diets. The other benefits of local food keep getting more and more important to more and more people: food safely grown by people you know; food that has a smaller carbon footprint; a food system that supports our farmers and local economy. You can’t find better eating than this!
All products at Coastal Growers’ Market are made, grown or caught in Rhode Island by the vendor selling them, which makes us truly local and ensures the high quality of products we offer. At every market you will find fresh produce, grass fed meats, locally caught seafood, breads and a wide array of baked goods, flowers, ice cream, fruit, prepared foods made to order and quality work by local artisans. Local musicians play at every market with nearby seating so that you can enjoy a market treat, (and there are many to choose from!) the music and the community that happens in the market place.
We have a growing crowd of loyal supporters who shop every Saturday, no matter the weather – the market has never been cancelled in summer and only once in winter when a particularly huge snowstorm arrived on a Friday evening. Should this ever happen again we will post a notice on our Face Book page – please Like us there and by visiting our market!
